Don Schweitzer and Ron Garcia

Councilmember Don Schweitzer was elected to the Brea City Council in November 2004.  Prior to his election, he served on the Planning Commission for six years. As part of his Council duties, Councilmember Schweitzer serves on the Development Committee, the Family Resource Center Advisory Board, and the Measure M Steering Committee.   Councilmember Schweitzer has always been an active and involved member of the Brea community.  He currently serves as a board member of the Brea Historical Society and is the Brea Museum Director.  He also is a past board member of the Brea Scout Center and the Brea Noon Lions, where he was awarded District Secretary of the Year in 1999.  Councilmember Schweitzer is a third generation Brean.  His grandfather and father also served on the Brea City Council.  His education includes a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Design from San Diego State University and a Bachelor of Architecture from Montana State University.   Councilmember Schweitzer is an architect and owner of Schweitzer Architects.  He and his wife Janis have two daughters.

Ron Garcia recently retired as Senior Loan Consultant for World Savings and Loan at their Buena Park Office and has held that position since May, 2005. Prior to joining World Saving & Loan, Ron held the position of Senior Deputy Director (with Fannie Mae) in their Los Angeles Office (Partnership) Office, with responsibilities in Orange County. During his tenure with Fannie Mae, Ron had the responsibility of investing ($6) billion in affordable mortgage and rental financing to serve sixty thousand low- moderate- and middle income families throughout Orange County. Ron served in this capacity from 2000 thru 2005. Prior to joining Fannie Mae, Ron was Vice President, Loan Production Manager for Quaker City Bank, with responsibilities in loan origination, marketing and training in both the Loan and Retail Divisions. Ron has the position of Vice Chair of the Brea Planning Commission.

Brief History
 
In 1911, the town's name was changed to Brea, Spanish for 'tar'. By 1917 there were 732 people in Brea, and they incorporated as Orange County's eighth city.  (Previous information from Orange County.net)
