Mike McGill

Council Member Mike McGill is serving his second term on the Cypress City Council having been elected to a four-year term in November of 1998, and reelected in November, 2002. He served as Mayor Pro Tem in 2000, Mayor in 2001 and 2005.
A graduate of California State University, Long Beach,
 
Council Member McGill holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and Accounting. He also has fulfilled the requirements to earn the distinction as a Charter Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), which he utilizes in his commercial insurance profession. Council Member McGill is a retired Lt. Colonel from the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves, a former Board Member of the Boys & Girls Club of Cypress, served on the Cypress/La Palma/Los Alamitos Adult Day Services Finance Advisory Board and was Cubmaster for Cypress Cub Scout Pack 660.
 
He is currently representing the City of Cypress on the following committee:
  • Orange County Fire Authority - Representative
  • Santa Ana River Flood Protection Agency - Alternate
Council Member McGill, his wife Nanette, and their two sons, have resided in Cypress since 1988.

Brief History
 
Civic leaders settled on the name Cypress when the city incorporated in 1956, and legend has it that cypress trees planted around the town's first school gave the area its name. But in one old school photograph unearthed by a city historian, no such trees appear. (Previous information from Orange County.net)
