Diane Harkey

Deupty Chairwoman of Dana Point

Diane Harkey

Diane, an Orange County resident for over 35 years, and a Dana Point resident since 1980, has been actively involved with political issues throughout most of her adult life. Appointed by the County to the Architectural Review Board in 1987, she began working actively with the County for Dana Point's incorporation in 1989. Since then, Diane has been a part of countless city, county, state and national candidates and initiatives.

Indicative of her many interests, Diane currently serves as an active Member of Ocean Institute’s Sand Dollar Guild, a Member of CHOC's Queen of Hearts Guild, a Trustee for the Capistrano Valley Symphony, a Sponsor for the Orange County Marathon’s Run for OC Kids as well as Boy's and Girl's Club events, a major donor to the J.F. Shea Therapeutic Riding Center (a volunteer organization serving persons with disabilities using horseback riding as therapy).

In November 2004, Diane was elected to the Dana Point City Council, clearly besting all four other candidates on the ballot. Over this past year, Diane, a strong fiscal conservative, has supported initiatives and legislation to control State spending, limit the powers of eminent domain, and protect Proposition 13. As a member of the council Diane has worked to implement a balanced budget and a reserve policy for the City. In addition to her council duties, she serves as:

  • Director, San Joaquin Hills Transportation Corridor Agency
  • Dana Point Harbor Revitalization Liaison
  • South Coast Water District Liaison
  • Capistrano Unified School Liaison
  • Delegate, Orange County Council of Governments
  • Alternate, California Joint Powers Insurance Agency
  • Alternate, El Toro Reuse Planning Authority

Diane has shown a consistent focus on national security through the prevention of illegal immigration while recognizing the need to protect our republic’s gallant mission as a home to those who seek a better life in liberty and peace. In recognition of her dedication, she was named an Honorary Co-Chair of the California Border Police Initiative. Diane, a former member of the Lincoln Club of Orange County, is a member of the Republican Women’s Federated, California Women’s Leadership Association and a member of the California Republican Assembly.

Diane holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of California, Irvine. Beginning her career with Security Pacific in 1970 and later, Bank of America, Diane enjoyed a successful career as a Vice President in Corporate and National Real Estate Finance. She has been married to her husband, Dan, for twenty-three years. Together they have a daughter, Jaclyn, a junior in college.
