Deputy Chairwoman of Irvine Christina Shea |
Christina Shea was elected to the Irvine City Council in a landslide victory in 1992 and, after a four-year term, was elected Mayor in 1996 and re-elected in 1998. After a two-year hiatus from public office, Councilwoman and Former Mayor Shea returns to the Irvine City Council.
Councilwoman Shea has been a strong supporter of local law enforcement, and saw the City of Irvine reap the rewards as one of America's Safest Cities during her first eight years in public office. Brief History
Irvine is the country's largest and best-known planned community. Now a city of over 150,000 people, its housing "villages" and business developments were sculpted from portions of the huge Irvine Ranch, purchased by James Irvine in 1864. Cattle and sheep once grazed the flat valley, but James Irvine began switching from ranching to farming in the late 1800s. (Previous information from Orange County.net)
