Jerry Amante

Jerry Amante was elected to the Tustin City Council in November 2004. Councilmember Amante currently serves as a Director of the Foothill/Eastern Transportation Corridor Agency and also serves on the Newport Bay Watershed Executive Committee, Measure M Renewal Super Committee, the California State League of Cities Revenue and Taxation Policy Committee and the Orange County League of California Cities Advocacy Committee. Councilmember Amante also serves as alternate on the County of Orange's Growth Management Area Committee, the Santa Ana River Flood Protection Agency and the Water Advisory Committee of Orange County.  Prior to his election to the City Council, he was appointed to the Tustin Planning Commission and served as its Chairman until he resigned in 2004 to run for office.
 
He has been active in the community in a variety of capacities. He is a member and Pillar Sponsor of the Tustin Chamber of Commerce and has served on its Government Affairs Council and its Business and Economic Development Council. He is a proud graduate of the Tustin Citizens Police Academy. He is a member of, has volunteered for, supported and/or contributed to many community and civic organizations including, the Tustin Chili Cook-Off and Street Fair Committee, the Tustin Boys and Girls Club, the Tustin American Legion, the Tustin Senior Center, the Tustin Public Library, the Tustin Area Council for Fine Arts, the Tustin Area Historical Society, the Tustin Public Schools Foundation, the Tustin Millennium Exchange Club, the Tustin Community Foundation, the Orange County Lincoln Club, the Orange County Rescue Mission, the Orange County Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse, and the Family Violence Project.
 
Councilmember Amante has a B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles and a Juris Doctorate from Southwestern University School of Law. He is admitted to all California State and Federal Courts and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is also a licensed real estate broker. He and his partner own a business, corporate and real estate law firm and a commercial real estate brokerage firm. In addition, he is an Arbitrator on the Panel of Civil Arbitrators of the Orange County Superior Court. Councilmember Amante and his wife Nancy have lived in Tustin for 17 years. They have two children, Shawn and Paul, and two grandchildren, Erik and Danica.

Brief History
 
Tustin was founded in 1868 by Columbus Tustin, a Philadelphia farmer and entrepreneur. But the town's growth was rather slow compared with neighboring Santa Ana and Orange. It took nearly 60 years before the predominantly farming community grew to 500 residents and incorporated.(Previous information from Orange County.net)
